Little Bee: Presidio

9 Funston Ave, SF, CA 94129, 94129

Status unknown

Our nature-based curriculum is a unique blend of Reggio-Emilia and Montessori. Presidio Park is just a few steps away from our school, and we use the natural landscape as our classroom during our daily outings. Other outings include Crissy Field East Beach, Lyon Street Steps, the Palace of Fine Arts, and multiple community gardens. While we are on outings, the children are free to explore and play to their heart’s desire.

What this means

The teaching approach

An outdoor/nature model spends much of the day outside in all weather, using nature as the primary classroom. Play-based means children learn through free and guided play — social skills, problem-solving, and early academics emerge through play rather than direct teaching.

The language model

This school teaches in Mandarin but isn't a full immersion program — Mandarin is woven in alongside English rather than being the main language of instruction.

Tuition shown is as of 2024 and may have changed — confirm with the school.

Good questions to ask on a tour

  1. 1What does a typical day look like, and how much of it is child-chosen play vs. teacher-led?
  2. 2What are the exact drop-off and pickup times, and is there any flexibility?
  3. 3Beyond the listed tuition, what other fees should I expect (application, deposit, materials, field trips)?
  4. 4How do you handle the transition for children starting mid-year or moving up from a younger classroom?
  5. 5What is your potty-training policy, and how do you support children who are still learning?
  6. 6How do you handle discipline, conflict between children, and big feelings?
  7. 7How much of the day is in Mandarin, and do children need any prior exposure to the language?
  8. 8Does having an infant/toddler program give siblings priority or a guaranteed spot later?
  9. 9What is your application timeline, and when do families typically hear back?
  10. 10How large is each class, and what is the teacher-to-child ratio?
