Status unknown

At Mission Montessori Preschool, children flourish in an authentic, nurturing Montessori environment from infancy through kindergarten. At our school, you’ll find a home away from home and a community of educators and fellow parents passionate about Montessori education. Our school is located in a beautiful, renovated historic building in the heart of our vibrant city in the Mid-Market area, just off Van Ness and Market Street. Our school is an urban oasis amidst a bustling city, with large, spacious classrooms looking out over a central courtyard playground. Inside multi-purpose rooms–a 2,000+ square-foot indoor gross motor area, a multi-purpose room used for everything from yoga to cooking, and a bright indoor gardening room–allow the children in our school to have a wide variety of experiences even in inclement weather.

What this means

The teaching approach

Montessori mixes children by age and uses hands-on, self-correcting materials so kids learn at their own pace with lots of independence. Mixed-age classrooms put older and younger children together, so kids learn from and teach each other.

The language model

Full immersion means most of the day is conducted in Optional Spanish Immersion, so children absorb the language naturally. It's normal for kids to understand little at first — they pick it up quickly.

  1. 1Can you walk me through a typical day from drop-off to pickup?
  2. 2What are the exact drop-off and pickup times, and is there any flexibility?
  3. 3What is the current monthly tuition, and are there different rates for different days-per-week schedules?
  4. 4How do you handle the transition for children starting mid-year or moving up from a younger classroom?
  5. 5What is your potty-training policy, and how do you support children who are still learning?
  6. 6How do you handle discipline, conflict between children, and big feelings?
  7. 7How much of the day is in Optional Spanish Immersion, and do children need any prior exposure to the language?
  8. 8Does having an infant/toddler program give siblings priority or a guaranteed spot later?
  9. 9How does the transition to kindergarten work, and which elementary schools do graduates typically attend?
  10. 10How does the ELFA voucher process work with your program?
